The Bravery - An Honest Mistake

So I didnt know who sang this song until it appeared in my head today. At first I thought this might be The Strokes. They have that simple mic, garage song.

12/28/2009

12/27/2009

Radiohead - Optimistic

I can't believe this album is almost 10 years old.

It still sounds "new" to me.

12/24/2009

I Want You - Kings of Leon

This song goes out to Nikki and Brandon who dragged me to a Kings of Leon concert. I had a great time.

12/23/2009

Soundgarden - Pretty Noose

When this video first came out, MTV wouldn't show it. The murder at the end of the video was considered "too heavy".

12/22/2009

12/21/2009

Destiny's Child - Say My Name

This earworm is dedicated to all those who joined in on Amber's birthday kareoke bash. I forgot who sang this one, but it stuck in my head until today.

12/20/2009

12/18/2009

OutKast - Hey Ya!

I know the tune is a little poppy, but the lyrics are actually really good.

12/15/2009

Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want

This is an amazing recording of this classic. I think the Stones get a little radio overplayed sometimes, but they still are an amazing band.

12/14/2009

M.I.A. - Paper Planes

Everyone's a winner, we're making our fame.

12/12/2009

The Doors - Love Her Madly

I first listened to The Doors at my first job. We would test the CD player in a computer using this album.

12/11/2009

Goo Goo Dolls - Better Days

Today I woke up and I knew I had a good dream, but I can't remember it.

Bummer.

12/10/2009

Queens of the Stone Age - Leg of Lamb

If you're just tuning in, this is one of the best newer metal bands out today.

There I said it.

12/09/2009

Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal

Anyone else kinda creeped out by the three kids right at the beginning of the video.

12/07/2009

Apocalyptica - I'm Not Jesus

Whoa, check out the hard rock cellists. Gimmicks always work in metal.

12/06/2009

Little Bribes - Death Cab For Cutie

I didn't know the song or artist for this song. It took me about twenty minutes of Googling to figure it out.

Good song though!

12/05/2009

12/04/2009

Chevelle - The Clincher

I haven't decided if I like Chevelle yet.

12/03/2009

Mainstreet - Bob Seger

So I had no idea, until today, that this was a Bob Seger song.

11/30/2009

Wild Cherry - Play That Funky Music

This song was Billboard's number one song the year I was born.

That doesn't make me like the song any better.

11/29/2009

Vince Gill - Go Rest High On That Mountain

Is that Dave Coulier singing harmony?

11/28/2009

Mad World - Gary Jules

This is an excellent cover of the Tears for Fears classic.

Total downer though...

Have a cigar

11/25/2009

Scorpions - Still Loving You

Want some awesome this morning?

You got it!

11/24/2009

I couldn't find this song on Youtube, but you can listen to a sample here.

I think I listened to this album about 1,000 time this year. Thanks to Skippy for letting me borrow his copy.

11/23/2009

Chris Isaak - Speak of the Devil

He's got such a great voice. This recording doesn't do him much justice.

Billy Idol - White Wedding

The best part of this song is the rolling bass line. Crank it up!

11/16/2009

I Could Have Danced All Night - Sound of Music

Ok, I feel like I need to preface this one:

I grew up in a very consersative, Christian home. I wasn't allowed to listen to the radio (even Christian Radio!). I couldn't watch a lot of movies, especially if they were too violent or sexual. And my mom hated Disney.

But musicals were safe.

That all said. I know every word to every song in Sound of Music and Fiddler on the Roof.

11/15/2009

Blink 182 - The Rock Show

This is the day Punk died.

11/14/2009

Jay-Z - Allure (DJ Danger Mouse Remix)

This is so much better than the original.

11/03/2009

Warren Zevon - Werewolves Of London

Rest in peace, Zevon.

Sorry about Kid Rock screwing up your classic with some fake remake. If it helps, I never bought any Kid Rock albums.

11/02/2009

Piggies - The Beatles

I'm sure this song has some deep, social commentary.

10/31/2009

David Bowie - Let's Dance

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues!

10/29/2009

Kings Of Leon - Crawl

Doesn't it feel like a Friday?

Alison Krauss and Robert - Plant in Please Read the Letter

I didn't even listen to this album this weekend. They have invaded my brain.

Neil Diamond - Sweet Caroline

I wonder if Neil gets really tired of singing this song. "Tired all the way to the bank!" as my mom would say.

10/24/2009

Dream Baby - Roy Orbison

This video is like a Where's Waldo of famous people.

And the song is amazing.

10/23/2009

AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie

The first time I heard this song, my buddy, Jeff, played it on his acoustic.

It rocked so much. I think his version is the best.

10/22/2009

R.E.M - Losing my religion.

I heard just recently that the term "Losing my Religion" means to lose your temper.

So there ya go.

You ever have one of those mornings when you wake up waaay early and you're wide awake? I hate that.

I love the thinly-veiled sexual innuendos of this song: "She told me to come but I was already there."

Dear Prudence - The Beatles

I had a great dream last night. You don't get the details.

I think playing Rock Band: Beatles for a few hours yesterday influenced today's earworm.

Bad Company - Rock and Roll Fantasy

My rock and roll fantasy involves Marlee Matlin on bass, a gallon of whipped cream, and a Zorro Mask.

10/02/2009

Divinyls - I Touch Myself

I'd like to dedicate this song to my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Eveland.

I always thought she was really pretty.

Kings of Leon - Fans

KOL (or Kings, as some people call them) put on a great live show.

You should have them play at your wedding.

Puddle of Mudd - She Hates Me

The best part of this video is the kid in the class room.

9/24/2009

Sexy Sadie - The Beatles

You made a fool of everyone.

9/23/2009

The Beatles - Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds

My mom used to sing the chorus to this trippy, Beatles classic. She knew what it meant, but I doubt she ever did LSD.

The Beatles - Yer Blues

The White Album. Is there another two-disc set which is any better?

I don't think so.

John Butler Trio - Groovin' Slowly

I want you to know you're the brightest star in my sky.

8/25/2009

The next few weeks could be Jimi heaven.

You have been warned.

8/24/2009

Bonnie Raitt

I had about 7 Bonnie Raitt songs jumbled up in my head today. Pretty much every song from "Takin' My Time".

8/21/2009

8/20/2009

Modern English - I Melt With You

"And now, Mr. Bond, using my fully-functioning jumbo, neon-laser umbrella; I'll stop the world and melt with you!"

8/19/2009

Welcome Home (Sanitarium) - Metallica

7/31/2009

L7 - Pretend We're Dead

Gurlz rule. Guyz drool.

7/30/2009

Panic! At The Disco - Nine in the Afternoon

This is one of those songs when you see the video you like the song less.

I only know this song from Rock Band. I guess it's in The Rocker too.

7/21/2009

Collective Soul - Why Pt 2

Too bad the cameraman couldn't figure out how to film the guitar solo... dumbass.

7/13/2009

Collective Soul - Precious Declaration

I think Collective Soul is the wacky combonation that is 90s rock: Emotional lyrics that don't match the distorted guitar...

7/10/2009

Soundgarden - Burden In My Hand

The truth is lying beneath the riverbed.

I heard a rumor that Soundgarden might do a reunion tour. That might be sweet.

7/09/2009

Mason Jennings - Butterfly

Yeah, my man Mason makes another earworm.

Thanks to Darrell for introducing Mr. Jennings to me.

Chris Isaak - Wonder

Chris Isaak is a great singer.

Not a great guitarist.

6/29/2009

Green Day - Walking Contradiction

I'm a fair-weather Green Day fan. There are days when I really like them and then other days when I think they are total copycat, posers.

6/26/2009

Ratt - Round and Round

Nothing wakes me up better than 80s metal. Well, except my friend's dog waking me up at 5:45am and then peeing on me when I petted him... dumbass.

6/25/2009

The Who - Naked Eye

It all looks fine, to the naked eye.

The Who is a late discovery for me. I really hadn't started listening to them until 2008.

Yesterday was my birthday. I got to see Caleb play a good game of baseball. He's an amazing 10 year old.

Then I got to play some volleyball with some friends and have a beer with my friend, Emily.

It was a good day.

6/24/2009

The Monkees - I'm a Believer

I thought love was only true in fairy tales...

You know Neil Diamond composed that song.

Oh and happy birthday, me.

6/22/2009

Simon & Garfunkle - Sounds of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend...

I went jogging this morning with Floyd (he's a dog). And as I turned a corner Floyd ducked in front of me. Instead of running into him I tried to jump over him and the leash caught my knee and sent me sprawling.

I scraped my elbow. Floyd thought it was some fun game and gave me a lick on the chin. Dumbass.

6/20/2009

Beck - Little One

This is off the Sea Change album, which is a great chill album by the Beck.

6/19/2009

Willie Nelson - It's Not Supposed to be That Way

Another sad love song by my man, Willie. Unfortunately Youtube didn't have Willie's version of the song, just Waylon Jennings. And Waylon's timing is very different than Willie's.

6/18/2009

Willie Nelson - Touch Me

I think I love Willie Nelson more than I love bacon. And I really love bacon.

6/17/2009

AC/DC - Highway to Hell

Some Christian rock band should do a version called Highway to Heaven.

6/16/2009

Mastodon - Colony of Birchmen

So I'm back from my camping trip. Today's earworm is very kick ass so try to contain yourself.

6/10/2009

I'm camping for the next 6 days!

Yes, I'm posting this at 5:30 in the morning.

Train - Calling All Angels

Hey Train, what's up with the acid trip video? Huh?

6/08/2009

6/07/2009

6/06/2009

The Dwarves - Deadly Eye

I don't know why Youtube doesn't have a video for this song. It's badass.

6/05/2009

The Game - Lets Ride

My life would be way cooler if it was all filmed in slo-mo.

Fugazi - Five Corporations

Thanks to Darrell for getting me started on Fugazi. I wouldn't describe any of their songs as catchy. So I'm surprised I had one as an earworm.

Fugazi - Five Corporations

Thanks to Darrell for getting me started on Fugazi. I wouldn't describe any of their songs as catchy. So I'm surprised I had one as an earworm.

The Game - Let's Ride

The Game is a stupid name for a rapper.

Rage Against The Machine - Guerrilla Radio

This was the very first Rage song I heard. I remember thinking "Who the heck are these guys?"

6/02/2009

Renegade - Styx

The jig is up!

I'm surprised there hasn't been a hip-hip remix of this. It's got the beat for it.

The Who - Love Ain't for Keeping

I like the acoustic on this one, adds a nice layer to the music.

5/30/2009

Butthole Surfers - Whatever

Hey, I had a dream last night.

It didn't fit me like a glove though. :(

5/28/2009

Cat Power - Free

Cat Power has such a cool, soft voice. I dunno about her name though.

"Cat Power?" Really? I wonder how many different names she went through before deciding on that one.

"Wolf Strength? No, too obvious. Rhino Muscle? No, not subtle enough."

5/27/2009

5/26/2009

Amy Winehouse - Wake Up Alone

I like the line: "Just so I don't have to think about thinking..."

Miss you, Mama.

New Kid in School - The Donnas

I have never been the new kid in school.

5/19/2009

I go back and forth with this song. I love the guitar parts but the lead singer's voice sometimes makes me cringe.

5/15/2009

Kanye West - Amazing

This song now has a permanent loop in my head. I really like the song... Kayne, not so much.

5/14/2009

Puddle Of Mudd - Blurry

Doesn't the lead singer kinda look like Jason Mewes?

5/11/2009

Eminem - We Made You

I think the best part of this song is when he's dressed up like Jason Mraz.

5/10/2009

The Long Run - The Eagles

Eagles still sound great. Kinda weird that they're all in suits, but whatever.

5/09/2009

Kanye West - Amazing

Love the drums on this song.

5/08/2009

Chevelle - Comfortable Liar

*headbang*

Chevelle is a pretty good, newer band. I guess. They're no Mastodon!

5/07/2009

Willie Nelson - Rainbow Connection

I'd like to dedicate this song to my good friend, Becca, who moved out-of-town early this morning.

Have a fun adventure, Becca! See you when you get back!

5/05/2009

Black Sabbath - Electric Funeral

Really nice recording of Sabbath here. Remember when Sabbath was the fastest, hardest band ever?

Yeah, I'm still on the hip-hop kick.

5/03/2009

Loverboy - Working For The Weekend

Bust out your best Chris Farley dance! Yeah!

5/01/2009

Metallica - Leper Messiah

I wonder where they came up with the title for this song.

"Hey guys, how about Cancer Messiah? IBS Messiah? or maybe Halitosis Messiah?"

4/29/2009

50 Cent - In Da Club

Is 50 cross-eyed? You'd think the scientists in Dr. Dre's lab would be able to fix that.

4/28/2009

Age of Silence - A Song For D. Incorporated

Youtube doesn't have a video of this song. Somebody fix that. Thanks.

4/27/2009

Cypress Hill - Illusions

Trippy, yo.

This was one of those days when I had a few other songs rolling around at the same time. Including: Boston, Eminem, and Cypress Hill.

4/26/2009

Mike Jones - Be Next 2 U

I guess I've been listening to more hip-hop lately.

4/25/2009

Cypress Hill - What's Your Number

Cypress Hill was one of the first rap groups I really liked. I still think they're pretty awesome.

4/24/2009

So yeah, I don't like Kayne out in life. I think he's arrogent and racist. But I do like some of his music, this song included.

This what happens when I drive a vehicle without my iPod. Damn you Soulja Boy.

4/15/2009

I dunno why this is a Timbaland song. All he does is sample saying "hay" in the back.

Nice job by One Republic though.

Sublime - Garden Grove

Pull over. There's a reason my soul's unsound.

4/13/2009

Willie Nelson - Rainbow Connection

Yeah, it's Willie again. You know, someday we'll find it.

4/09/2009

A Whole Month

Looking at my blog today I realized it has been 1 month since I posted. A lot of it had to do with PC breaking but another part of it was my mom's passing at the beginning of March.

It's been a month since her passing and yet it still feels like yesterday. Thankfully my family and friends have been very supportive. The last month has been such a unique time for me. It's just starting to feel a little bit more like normal.

There is no emotion to describe the loss of a parent. It's an odd combination of emotions and, even after a month, it's still hard to think about. While her passing was very quiet and peaceful, the days before were terrible. It was, by far, the scariest sight I've ever seen.

Willie Nelson - My Own Peculiar Way

Yup, I'm back... or my PC is back, rather. I finally spent two days and got it fixed.

Nice to wake up to this good Willie song. And Emmy Lou is nice too.

Norah Jones - Humble Me

It feels like forever since I've posted on here and so much has been going on.

First, my mom passed away on March 4th. So I was just away from everything there.

Second, my home PC has AIDS or something. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to fix it soon.

Meanwhile, my posts will continue to be intermittent. I think my 3 readers should be okay with that. =)

Willie Nelson - Rainbow Connection

I guess I'm on a Willie Nelson kick.

2/26/2009

Willie Nelson - My Own Peculiar Way

The best part of this song is Emmy Lou Harris.

2/25/2009

Willie Nelson - She Is Gone

I love the solos on this song. Willie has such a great style.

2/24/2009

Amy Winehouse - Rehab

Poor Amy. She just needs a sammich.

2/23/2009

Hustle and Flow - Its Hard Out Here for a Pimp

Speaking as a pimp, I will say it is quite hard out here.

:)

2/22/2009

AC/DC - Sink the Pink

How awesome is this video? Seriously.

2/21/2009

2/20/2009

Bonnie Raitt - Let Me In

This is a fun song from Bonnie's "Takin' My Time" album. Which is a great album, by the way. You should check it out. Yeah, that's right. I'm talking to you. Go get that album. Go ahead, I'll wait.

2/19/2009

Counting Crows - Goodnite Elizabeth

So most of the time, I don't like the Counting Crows. As I was getting ready for bed last night this song came on. And I remembered that the Crows do have a few great songs. This would be one.

No, this isn't the original music video.

2/18/2009

Church Music

I recently had a chance to visit my folks and my mom asked me to play some of the old church music. A few of those songs were running through my head today. It's actually pretty good stuff, kinda sweet.

2/17/2009

Amy Winehouse - Me and Mr. Jones

Pretty good live recording of Miss Winehouse here.

2/16/2009

Sublime - Mary / Big Salty Tears

Yay for Sublime making it back into the earworm!

2/12/2009

Willie Nelson - On The Road Again

So today I'm headed back home to Nebraska, which is an 8 hour drive. How appropriate!

Oh hey, I love Willie's little solo on this song.

2/11/2009

Jack Johnson - Breakdown

I think in another life I was a chilled-out, song-writing surfer bum. And I lived in a little beach house on some remote town without any tourists. And I had a dog.

Pretty sure.

The Villans - Cigarettes Make Me Happy

So my buddy, Jason, got me The Villans CD for Christmas. We went to their show and I thought they were awesome!

Unfortunately, they don't have any of their songs on Youtube. But I'll put up today's lyrics just because their so great.

Cigarettes make me happy
Like Jesus Christ on Christmas time
Cigarettes make me happy
Ya ya ya ya yai!

2/09/2009

Taj Mahal - Blues Ain´t Nothing

Nice long jam by Taj and friends!

2/08/2009

South Park - It Happened in Sun Valley

It's from the South Park Christmas Album, which is the only Christmas album I own.

2/07/2009

The Dwarves - Like You Want

I couldn't find a recording any better than this, but I didn't search that hard.

Thanks to Darrell for getting me started on The Dwarves!

2/06/2009

The Villans - Gimme the Microphone

Unfortunately, The Villans don't have any YouTube videos. They're a two-man punk band local to Champaign-Urbana, IL.

Their live show was a total blast. It was nice to see some real punk in my town. None of this fake, "I shop at Spencers", my-haircut-is-punk garbage that's all over MTV. But actual, real, in-your-mom's-face punk. Awesome!

2/05/2009

Age of Silence - The Idea Of Independence And The Reason Why It's Austere

I'll admit, when Darrell first let me borrow this CD, I didn't like them. But I didn't dismiss them immediately. Then suddenly, one day I loved them. Maybe I'm bad with first impressions.

2/04/2009

Oasis - The Importance of being idle

I know Oasis is supposed to be a big deal. I don't really get it. I probably should curl up with a few of their old albums and make a real decision.

2/03/2009

Ray LaMontagne - Jolene

Ray has such an amazing voice. And an amazing beard. I mean, look at it!

2/02/2009

Alice In Chains - Man In The Box

I'm the dog that gets beat. Shove my nose in... shiz.

2/01/2009

Soundgarden - Burden In My Hand

Today's lyrics were "I shot my love today, would you cry for me".

I actually couldn't remember what song it was. It took a little searching to remember it. I thought it was an Alice in Chains song at first, which doesnt make much sense.

Anyway, Soundgarden... awesome.

1/31/2009

John Butler Trio - Caroline

Ignore the picture on this one. The song is great!

1/28/2009

Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own

I think this song should be re-produced. The beat is too choppy and fast. I would make the beat more consistant.

That's my two cents!

1/27/2009

Rainbow Connection - Willie Nelson

I think I like Kermit's version better. =)

1/26/2009

Blues Traveler - Yours

Hooray for Monday's. I realized today that snow makes me want to be really lazy. We got an inch or so this weekend and I don't want to leave the house. Even though I'm completely out of groceries.

1/24/2009

The Who - Too Much Of Anything

This week has seriously been "too much."

1/22/2009

Mastodon - Colony of Birchmen

I wish I could find the offical video for this song. I just remember it being really crazy and awesome.

Don't like harder metal? Try Mastodon!

1/21/2009

Amy Winehouse - Me and Mr. Jones

I'm pretty sure Amy says "fuckery" in this song. How inventive.

1/19/2009

Ralph Stanley - Angel Band

From the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack.

I still like the old time hymns. Don't let the rugged, rock exterior fool you.

1/17/2009

Bob Dylan - Tangled Up In Blue

I barely know any Dylan music which is sad. I should know every Dylan song by heart!

1/16/2009

Black Sabbath - War Pigs

Hello, have you met AWESOME?!!?

It was the 2nd solo that was running through my head this morning. I'd type it out but, you know, that'd be weird.

Ok, it's the part where they go: Duh-duh-dee-dee duh-duh-dee-duh...

1/15/2009

The Presidents of the USA - Lump

I first heard this song at my very first, real job. I was building computers at a little mom-n-pop, computer dealer in Omaha, NE. One of the other techs got PUSA's CD and played it for about 3 months straight.

Is this lump out of my head? I think so.

1/14/2009

OutKast - Hey Ya!

I got kinda burned out from this song when it first came out. Only because it was played every single hour on the hour!

For such a fun sounding song, the lyrics are pretty deep.

1/13/2009

Devin Townsend - Hyperdrive

This is off the amazing "Ziltoid The Omniscient" album. I'm not a huge fan of metal but this album is entirely badass.

Devin Townsend is the awesome.

1/12/2009

Black Sabbath - Iron Man

The first time I heard this song, it wasn't the Black Sabbath version.

It was the remix that Sir Mix-a-lot did. You think I'm kidding? Ask me sometime, I still remember all the lyrics.

1/10/2009

Aerosmith - Train Kept a Rollin'

Somehow the Japanese dudes make this song even more epic.

1/09/2009

Blues Traveler - Yours

Blues Traveler was one of the best live shows I have ever seen.

1/08/2009

Motorhead - Ace Of Spades

How badass is this song? Seriously. How badass?

The only lame thing is the drummer is wearing a Motorhead t-shirt.

1/07/2009

The Who - Going Mobile

I don't think this song has any hidden meaning. I'm pretty sure it's just about driving somewhere.

1/06/2009

Amy Winehouse - Me and Mr Jones

I like how she says "fuckery". I'm gonna start using that more, fuckery.

1/05/2009

Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots

Yeah for 90's rock! This is a great recording for a live show.

Scott's stage presence is a little weird, but that's rock and roll I guess.
